Clinton Digester-Build Maine Award Recipient 2023
The Peaks Renewables project is a groundbreaking initiative transforming Maine’s energy landscape while supporting local communities and the environment. Partnering with six dairy farms—Flood Brothers, Gold Top, Somerset, Wright Place, Taylor Dairy, and Heifer Haven—the facility converts manure into renewable natural gas, supplying 45% of Maine’s residential natural gas customers. By reducing 28,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to removing 6,500 cars from the road, the project significantly cuts emissions while repurposing byproducts as animal bedding and fertilizer.
This initiative not only strengthens Maine’s dairy industry but also advances energy independence in the nation’s most heating-oil-dependent state. With the potential to expand farm partnerships and promote sustainable practices, the project exemplifies innovation, reducing emissions, supporting local agriculture, and creating lasting benefits for Maine’s economy, environment, and people.
