Giles Foundations, Inc. is currently seeking experienced Carpenters, General Laborers, Estimators, Field Engineers, Foremen, Superintendents and Project Managers to work on several commercial, industrial and residential construction projects throughout the State of Maine. These positions are year-round, full-time, with an immediate start date.

CDL-A and CDL-B drivers

N.S. Giles Foundations is currently seeking experienced CDL-A and CDL-B drivers to work on several commercial, industrial and residential projects throughout the state of Maine. These positions are year round, with an immediate start date.

Requirements include:

  • Maine CDL-A (or CDL-B)
  • Safe driving record
  • Demonstrated experience using Class B or Class A vehicle
  • Demonstrated experience using pallet jacks, forlklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Job requires frequent bending, lifting, stretching
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50-75 lbs, frequently for 8-10 hours a day
  • Must be able to push/pull 50-250 lbs

Estimator

Review project bid documents and coordinate with project management/ field operations/estimating team;

  • Develop general and special conditions costs;
  • Review subcontractor & supplier bid requests, relevant information and work plans;
  • Review and prepare work scopes, instructions to bidders, bid forms or solicitation information as needed;
  • Able to analyze various scopes of work and produce comprehensive quantity take-offs, hourly production rates, unit price estimates, material costs and equipment, knowledge of field crew sizes
  • Able to analyze and summarize Excel estimating spreadsheets, manipulate formulas.
  • SAGE/Timberline estimating knowledge is a plus
  • Prepare timely, concise, yet through proposals
  • Update estimate software to be current with today’s pricing
  • Maintain the master schedule of incoming projects and assure successful bids are entered in the job cost system
  • Possess good communication skills to effectively solicit and work with owner’s representatives, material suppliers and subcontractors in pre-bid estimate preparations and post-bid negotiations.
  • Maintain a positive relationship and lines of communication with the owner, design professionals, subcontractors, and vendors and works in conjunction with the other professionals in the company
  • Review and/or prepare the quantity survey for all work;
  • Prepare conceptual budgets based on information available;
  • Review and prepare general conditions, schedule, scopes of work, site logistics, means and methods, constructability and other information to insure competitiveness and limit risk;
  • Form effective relationships with client, design teams, sub-contractors and suppliers that reflect and support company values;
  • Effectively handover proposal information on to project management and field operations;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage estimates for more than one project at any given time;

Knowledge, Skills and Attitude 

  • Review project bid documents and coordinate with project management/ field operations/estimating team;
  • Must possess strong organizational, negotiation, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Has the ability to work hands-on/independently, as well as part of a team
  • Possess competency with computers for use in day to day communications and paperwork.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or similar on-screen takeoff software.
  • Knowledge of BIM and LEAN technology a plus but not required.
  • Ability to take on new challenges and is willing to learn.
  • Has good work ethic.
  • Acts as a role model who leads by example.
  • Takes on responsibility and accountability.
  • Is honest and acts with integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS – 

BS or BA degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Structural Engineering

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Exceptional excel skills
  • Very good communications skills
  • Experience and knowledge of field labor and equipment operations
  • 3+ years of field and 3+ years of in office estimating experience desired
  • OSHA 30 Certified.
  • Ability to lift and lower objects up to 50lbs.
  • Acceptable attendance record.
  • Acceptable performance evaluations.
  • Must be willing to travel within the State of Maine which could include overnight stays.

Hours –

  • Monday thru Friday:  6:00 am to 5:00 pm (hours can vary, some Saturdays as needed)
  • Ability to work additional hours and/or overtime depending on job needs
